Culture and history
Töplitz
The island Töplitz was settled by the last monks of Lehnin 700 years ago. They grew wine on the mountain of wine and they lived on fish farming, agriculture and livestock farming.
Friedrich the II were brought the Huguenots, which had been displaced from the Switzerland into Old-Töplitz. Therefore there was a cultural recovery in Töplitz, because the Huguenots had brought modern practices of production for the agriculture with them. They have even started to breed silkworms to become independence of Asia, the monopoly of cloths.
Since the beginning of the 19th century our village has been renowned for the fruit-growing. By reason of the sandy soil of the Mark we have apple and cherry trees with a very high quality. Today there is an international gallery that presents the most different works of art from many countries.
